The Kenyan Orphan Children Foundation came about as a result of Colleen McCormick and her husband David Moore who spent a year in Kenya with Doctor's Without Borders.
"During our time there, David worked as a physician on an AIDS project, and I taught in a local school in Busia. I met Monica Odour at a meeting for groups doing community building work in Kenya. I saw Monica every day and recognised the need to assist her in her work".
After their return to Canada, David and Colleen, along with some friends, established this foundation to assist Monica in the good work she is doing to help children in Kenya who have been orphaned by AIDS.
The Kenyan Orphan Children Foundation is a registered Canadian charity (BN 84074 0955 RR0001).
Objectives
Our objective is to assist with the day-to-day operating costs of Mama Orphans Children's Home, which currently houses approximately 100 children ranging in age from 4 to 18. These costs include food, clothing, medical care, bedding, and education.
While the orphanage has been fortunate to secure funding from international organizations for a few much needed capital projects, it receives no other ongoing support for daily operating costs, which are currently running at approximately US$300 per child per year, or approximately US$30,000 in total per year.
